Biodynamic Composting

Growing food in Florida presents unique challenges. One of the secrets in making the soil viable lies in composting. While composting can be physically challenging, learning to simplify the process as well as understanding the merits of the biodynamic preparations in your composting will help you reap the many benefits of a nutrient-rich and an environmentally responsible amendment. This interactive experience begins Friday evening at 6PM where we will build a biodynamic compost pile. FOG will host a raffle and the winner will take home the composting materials. Join Rand Carter again, on Saturday at 3:45 for an upbeat and interactive beginner's guide to Biodynamic composting. We will explore going beyond organics, marvel at the simplicity of the '’C:N ratio card game'' and discover a unique approach to understanding plant nutrition & microbiology.

Rand Carter Rand was born during the post-war era of Victory Gardens. In that time the lifestyle was backyard gardens and composting. Starting in 2015 Rand spent a year traveling throughout the U.S. attending Biodynamic courses and working at any Biodynamic Farms that he could. Since then, he has had the opportunity to meet and continue studying with the best BD practitioners of our time. The farm work allowed him to fully understand the art of composting and he has scaled that information down to fit in a backyard. Rand's desire is to simplify the art of composting and reduce the physical exertion. Quality compost makes healthy soil, healthy soil makes healthy plants and healthy plants make a healthier you. Rand wishes to express gratitude to the BD farmers that have guided him.
